I Love My Kindle! "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James

I was influenced by popular culture and the buzz created by "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James, so I decided to see what all of the fuss was about. The novel is set mainly in Seattle and centres around Christain Grey and his relationship with Anastasia (Ana) Steele. Christian Grey is a wealthy self-made business man in this late 20s and Ana is a college graduate. Christian, or Mr Grey, as he prefers to be called, is "fifty shades of fucked up" due to his very early life with an abussive drug addict mother.

The novel is highly erotic, with Christain in the role of sadist (dominant) trying to convince Ana to be his submissive. Ana is deeply drawn to Christan, but struggles with the role of being a sumbissive and the bondage and physical abuse she receives from Christian within their sexual relationship. The bulk of the novel involves Christain Grey restraining Ana, spanking, or whipping her and then having sex with her, with her reaching amazing orgasims, this is followed from by a period of soul searching by Ana until they get together and do it all again.

Spolier alert:
At the end of the first novel Ana builds up the courage to call this really unhealthy relationship over, but as there are another two books, this decision obviously does not last. She admits to Christain that she is in love with him and this is what will no doubt draw him back to her in book two, "Fifty shades Darker".

This book has topped best seller lists around the world and I really do not know why. The writing is mediocre at best and Christian Grey is a nasty, disturbed man who has no respect for women, he is certainly not a romantic hero. The novel does bring some hope in the sense that if this drivel can be published, then maybe my novel will see the light of day too.
