I Love My Kindle! "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes

"Me Before You" is told through the eyes of Lou Clark, a young woman who lives a simple life with her family and who has made safe, unchallenging choices thoughout her adult life, for reasons we discover later. When the cafe she works for closes down she begins work as a carer for Will Traynor. Will is a quadraplegic whose once full life has been shattered by an accident with a motorcycle. He is bitter and resentful about the life he now finds himself living. As the relationship between them develops, Will becomes increasingly frustrated at Lou's lack of ambition and Lou sees it as her personal mission to show Will the that there is still hope and a world of possibilities for him. Will has other plans for his life and even falling in love with Lou is not enough reason for him to put these plans on hold.

This is quite a confronting novel dealing with the issue of voluntary euthanasia, asking questions about what determines quality of life.  There are echos of "Pygmalion", as Will exposes Lou to the world of classical music. Lou and her family are really likeable characters, will and his family, not so. As a reader you hope that true love will prevail and that Lou will sieze a bigger life. I can't tell you this, so I recommend you do read this book.
